Winemaker Stuart Botha joined Tokara in 2017 and the latest vintage releases from the premium Stellenbosch wine estate clearly demonstrate that he is more than hitting his stride. Uncompromising excellence is certainly a running theme and the 2017 Cab is a knock out. Classic styling with pencil shavings and cedar wood, lead to black cherry and wild sage. On the palate the fruit is just perfectly ripe and manages to have this wonderful concentration as well as tension aided on by a mouth cleansing freshness. Notably seasoned with 6% of petit verdot, which gives it a lushness and an almost opaque depth. A marriage of red and black fruit is framed elegantly by judicious oaking and well-integrated sand-papery tannins, certainly still evolving and a few more years will add even more complexity, grab a case for the cellar. R330 (94).
