Kaapzicht Skraalhans Pinotage 2020

Named for a gangly weed that grows in Kaapzicht’s vineyards, Skraalhans is the tongue-in-cheek moniker for this new wave style pinotage at just 12.5% alcohol. Part of winemaker Danie Steyler Jnr’s quest to represent all expressions of the grape. Eschewing traditional methods, the wine was part whole-bunch fermentated then matured for 10 months in old 500L barrels. It’s so very drinkable. Light lift of spicy fynbos flowers, touch of smokiness before pure, vibrant red berries and cherries, which continue on the palate, wrapped in transparent tannins before a sour cherry finish. Deft and confident. R150. (92) ML
