Meerlust
Red 2019

A statement of quality. In a paradox of sorts, this exciting release of the Meerlust Red 2019 has underscored the Stellenbosch estate’s commitment to excellence. Weather vagaries and Meerlust’s self-imposed quality requirements resulted in the benchmark Cape Bordeaux blend, the Rubicon 2019 being declassified. The Meerlust Red 2019 is the first appearance since the 2011 vintage, previous examples have been the ‘85, ’90 and ’02. Not to be confused with the export label of the same name. The 2019 is comprised of 43% cabernet sauvignon, 31% merlot, 21% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. Further augmenting the finesse and drinkability of the wine, the 2019 merlot estate bottling also won’t be released and was instead blended into the 2019 Red. Dark flora, black cherries and plums, along a subtle seam of cinnamon and meat spice lead to a plush and juicy palate, framed with powdery, soft tannins. Not often will you find such a rare wine, at such an affordable price. R230 (91)
