Chardonnay
2019

The 2019 vintage commemorates the 30th vintage of this wine. That’s quite an innings from the Chardonnay Kings of Robertson. Launched in 1989, proprietor and all-around legend Danie de Wet bucked the trend for heavily wooded chardonnays and instead introduced as a mid-tier to his range of chardonnays, this lightly-wooded example, which is mostly fermented in 2nd and 3rd fill barrels. Three decades later it continues in understated elegance; showing the floral and citrus nuances of the grape. A pretty nose of elderflower and white blossom, green apple, white peach and lemon oil precedes a subtle unfolding of orange citrus and peaches on the palate. A creamy lees undertow acts as ballast for the shiny fruit with soft lemony acids and a pink grapefruit twist on the finish.  R150 (90).
